Where science (and conservation) meets storytelling.

These have been trying times for humans and wildlife alike. But quietly dotted throughout the chaos are a number of important findings and successes that show there are reasons to be optimistic for our planet. From new discoveries to community-driven habitat restoration, this year was not without its conservation wins.

Below I will be sharing some of my favorite conservation stories. Why?

Telling stories can inform and inspire people to connect with and act for nature, allowing us to think about the environment from different perspectives. As someone without a formal science background— but wanting to learn more about protecting the world around me— I felt (and often still do) a bit intimidated when entering a conversation dominated by scientists or trying to understand an article out of a prestigious science journal.

That feeling of being out of your comfort zone resonates with many people when faced with difficult data and figures. Key ideas in research can be heavily bogged down in scientific jargon, making it difficult for people outside the science community to understand. Along with the large inaccessibility of academic research, the public’s perception of conservation, climate, and environmental issues slants with the constant negative news narrative and a lack of shared actionable solutions.

So I wanted to create the space.

The Curious Conservationist Blog. A place where the science in broken down so that all can appreciate— and celebrate— conservation successes.
